Curriculum Vitae
From 1971 – 1973 Jonathan Hynd studied at the Thames Polytechnic School in London before joining the Architectural Association. In his fourth year he worked for Dr. Bakhtiar and Associates in Isfahan, Iran, while studying and brick-vaulting techniques and writing his technical thesis. Hynd returned to complete his degree at the AA from 1975 – 1977 and was tutored by Keith Critchlow and Zaha Hadid.
In 1978 Jonathan Hynd made the decision to become a painter and enrolled in a foundation course for painting at the St. Martin’s School of Art.
Jonathan Hynd then graduated from Goldsmith’s College in 1983, where he emerged with a Master’s Degree in Fine Art and quickly left for Italy on sojourn.
From 1987 onwards, Jonathan Hynd has been living and working in Rome as an independent abstract artist with the key exhibitions which have shaped his career: Essential Matters (1993); Works from Rome (1996); Prima Materia (1997).
Since 2010, the artist has hosted lectures as an adjunct professor at the Rhode Island School of Design in North America and Temple University’s Overseas Program in Rome, as a part of the Tyler School of Fine Art in Philadelphia.
In 2015, Jonathan Hynd became the first British artist to receive an Honoris Causa at the University Roma Tre. In 2021, he won 1st Place at the VII edition of the Franco Cuomo International Prize for the Arts in Palazzo Giustiniano at the Senate House in Rome.
